This website opens the window to the creations of Raman Kutty, who is a physician, a Professor of Public Health and researcher of long standing. Apart from his official vocation, art has always been one of his pre-occupations, and he has actively pursued making art using various media such as acrylics and oil paints on paper and canvas, as well as sketching, drawing, cartooning, and creating digital art. He mostly works in the abstract expressionist genre, and allows the painting or artwork to create itself with minimal interference. His work builds on randomness and spontaneity which he believes should be a major part of the creative process. He thinks of his paintings as his ‘explorations into the idea of randomness’. He is mostly a self-taught artist, having learnt from books, videos and classes, but most importantly from looking at the creations of masters. His favourite artists are the twentieth century expressionists such as Kandinsky, Chagall, Malevich, Klee, Gris, Pollock, de Kooning, Rothko. He admires the Kerala maestro K C S Panikkar. Among Indians he adores Gaitonde, Souza, Sher-Gil, Ramkumar. Other favourites include all time greats like Raphael, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse, O’Keeffe, Hockney. ‘This is a site where I would like to put out my work for others to see. It also would form a documentation of my further evolution as an artist. My art has always been a little frivolous and celebratory of life, the great good fortune to be alive in the moment. I take the cue from the famous biologist Richard Dawkins, who sad that the greatest good fortune is to be alive, and I make no apology for that’
